Our story

Started as a weekend habit. Stayed that way.

Jeep Cape Xplorer began with one open-top Jeep, a small group of friends, and a habit of driving the Cape's quieter roads on Saturdays. When friends visiting from overseas kept asking to come along, it became something else.

Seven years later we still operate the way that started: small group sizes, real hosts, no scripted tour-bus pacing. Every Jeep is locally owned. Every guide is a Capetonian. Every booking comes through a real person — not a dispatcher.

We're proudly female-led, SATSA-registered, and one of only a handful of premium 4×4 operators recommended by Cape Tourism. None of which we'll mention much again — but it's why we do this the way we do.

Our guides

The people
who actually drive.

Every booking is matched with a guide whose pace fits the day you've described. Wine routes go to our slow-tasting hosts. Dune routes go to the off-road specialists. Custom days go to whoever planned them with you.

All guides are professionally licensed, first-aid certified, and have driven each route enough times to know which lookout has the best light at 16:30 in autumn — and which estate to skip on a Sunday.

What we won't do

A different kind of operator.

There's a way most Cape tours are run. We do almost none of it.

No bus tours

Maximum 6 guests per Jeep. If you're a bigger group, we run multiple Jeeps in convoy — never a coach.

No fixed timetable

If a stop is good, we stay. If a road's calling, we take it. Cape weather doesn't keep a clock either.

No upsells

What you pay covers the Jeep, the guide, fuel, planning. Tastings and meals are quoted before booking.

No commission tasting rooms

We choose estates that serve the wine well, not the ones that pay the highest commissions.

Guest letters

Recent guests, lightly edited.

"Our guide actually asked about our likes and dislikes before we set off — and the day completely shaped itself around that. We saw more of the Cape in eight hours than friends had in a week."

"They custom-built the day for our anniversary. Bo-Kaap, a harbour lunch, and a Constantia finish. Every detail handled. We are recommending Xplorer to everyone."
